Attention: A camping unit is one tent, one trailer, or one camper—not a combination or multiples of the above. A camper is defined as an RV, conversion van, vehicle with rooftop tent, or any vehicle that is slept in. Only one vehicle is allowed per campsite. A vehicle and attached tow equipment is considered one vehicle. Some, but not all, campsites may accommodate an extra vehicle. Only one extra vehicle is allowed per site. Additional fees are required for extra vehicles. For questions regarding extra vehicles, please call Dead Horse Point State Park at 435-259-2614.
Tent-only sites are walk-in sites and will not accommodate RVs, trailers, campers, camper vans, or vehicles with rooftop tents. Due to limited parking, no extra vehicles are allowed in the tent-only sites.

Attention:
By a vehicle having a camper or RV, that means it is a camping unit, not an extra vehicle.

Overview

Description

Towering 2,000 feet directly above the Colorado River, Dead Horse Point State Park provides a breathtaking panorama of the sculptured pinnacles and buttes of Canyonlands National Park.

Geography:

Millions of years of geologic activity created the spectacular views from Dead Horse Point State Park. Deposition of sediments by ancient oceans, freshwater lakes, streams and wind blown sand dunes created the rock layers of canyon country. Igneous activity formed the high mountains that rise like cool blue islands out of the hot, dry desert.

Recreation:

Customers enjoy Dead Horse Point’s many hiking and mountain bike trails. Photography, nature study, geology, wildlife viewing, and summer evening programs are a hit with visitors to this beautiful park.

Facilities:

A visitor center offers information on the history, geology, and biology of the area. There are two campgrounds and a yurt areas:

Kayenta Campground: All campsites in the Kayenta Campground have 20/30/50 amp electrical hookups near the paved driveway. This campground has flush toilets, a dump station, and each campsite has a small shade shelter and at least one tent pad.

Wingate Campground: The Wingate Campground offers guests access to 21 campsites with 20/30/50 amp electrical hookups, 11 hike-in tent only campsites, and 4 yurts. The hike into the tent only campsites is less than 200 yards from the parking lot. This campground has two restrooms with flush toilets and one vault toilet, a dump station, and all the campsites have a shade shelter and one small tent pad.

Wingate Yurts: Located at the edge of the Wingate campground, these four yurts are complete with a bunk bed, futon bed, tables (indoors and outdoors), AC/heater units, lamps, grills, and fire pits. No pets, smoking, or cooking are allowed inside the yurts. Tent and trailer/RV camping is not allowed by the yurts.

Moenkopi Yurts: Located in a secluded cul-de-sac near the park entrance, these five yurts are complete with a bunk bed, futon bed, tables (indoors and outdoors), AC/heater units, lamps, grills, and fire pits. Smoking, and cooking is not allowed inside the yurts. A maximum of two dogs are allowed inside the Moenkopi yurts for a separate pet fee. No other pets are allowed.
